“Next thing I was up against the wall and riot cops were charging straight at us. I couldn’t move anywhere and was terrified as they came within a few fee, truncheons raised, manic frenzied looks on their faces. A moment later they were gone, swallowed from my view as the crowd stood its ground and surged forwards again.”
The next Red and Black Reading Group will take place at The Packhorse, 202 Woodhouse Lane, at 4 pm on Sunday the 31st of May. We’ll be looking at Chapter One and Chapter Four of Poll Tax Riot: 10 Hours that Shook Trafalgar Square. Copies of the text are available for £1 from AKUK (order here: http://akuk.com/index.php?_a=product&product_id=2300) or you can read it online here (http://libcom.org/history/1990-accounts-poll-tax-riot).
The Red and Black Reading Group aims to be a place to explore and discuss revolutionary theory with like minded people in a relaxed setting. We want to develop our ideas through discussion and debate, with an eye to applying them in practice. Anyone interested in taking part is welcome – no previous experience or expertise on the subject is required. We only ask that attendees respect of each other’s ideas and experiences during the discussion, whilst leaving room for debate and disagreement.
We want to make these discussions as open and accessible as possible, so please get in touch if you have any concerns or need any help from us in order to attend.
